To manage the long-term logistics of fully commissioned rail ready locomotives that are built in a non-UK gauge country and therefore cannot be transported by rail.

The project scope was to coordinate and manage the whole logistical chain from factory to rail in the UK; importing the locomotives by water.

Such long-term logistics solutions require an integrated system that is flexible to accept changes to production and delivery program without significantly increasing costs or impacting schedules. No one can foresee the all the future challenges so robustness and flexibility need to be considered at the start and maintained throughout the project. Our project team worked closely with various partners in Spain and the UK.

As the transport contractor we see our role is to solve potential problems. To achieve this we ensure that first we fully understand the problem so that we can then engineer the best solution and actively take responsibility.

The result:

Osprey’s dedicated onshore project team took the project from its infancy to successful completion by providing a solution focused multi-modal approach, using in-house assets and skills to ensure that the project was delivered on time, safely and in a value-added manner.
