Brindle Chapel Rail Bridge Replacement

Brindle Chapel Rail Bridge Replaced with SPMTsOsprey Heavy Lift was contracted to carry out the bridge replacement work at Brindle Chapel underline bridge. Located in Lancashire, Brindle Chapel bridge carries the Preston to Blackpool rail lines over a single road.

The bridge is located on a narrow country lane which proved a challenge when designing a stable transport arrangement for the removal of the existing structure and bridge replacement.

Using our hydraulic gantry lifting system and Self Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMT’s) the existing single span deck was removed and a new u-type steel deck complete with reinforced concrete cill beams was installed. SPMT’s were also used to transport the existing deck to the compound and deliver the new deck onto the abutments.

Using our wider SPMT’s ensured safety and maximum stability of the load was obtained while navigating the narrow access route. The bridge replacement was completed and the old structure lowered to grade ready for demolition all within the core weekend.

The project was delivered safely, on time and within budget much to the satisfaction of our customer and Network Rail.
